NAVIDAD
Simboliza a Dios.
CHRISTMAS
Christmas in Spain starts on the 25th of December and the 24th is Christmas Eve. Also, the 6th of January is the Three Wise Men day when children receive their presents. The custom of giving presents on Christmas Day is a tradition from USA or UK, and Spain has adopted it.
At Christmas, families get together on the 24th of December and they have dinner together. On the 31st of December is the end of the year and most families get together again. Nowadays, people get out with friends to celebrate the New Year. That night we celebrate the end of the year and the beginning of another with 12 grapes. At 12 o’clock with each ring of the clock, we eat 1 grape. If you can eat all of them, you would have a good luck year. Spain is the only city that does this. On the 5th of January, the children go to see the Three Wise Men parade. It is a Spanish tradition and it’s come from the Christianity.
The Three Wise Men brought presents to Jesus Christ when he was born.
Melchior is an old man with a big white beard. He gave to Jesus Christ myrrh, a red substance which is used to elaborate perfumes and it was the men’s symbol.
Caspar, the youngest, blond, gave him incense, which is the symbol of God.
And Balthasar, the black man, gave him gold, which is the symbol of the King.
When the children are sleeping the night of the 5th of January, the Three Wise Men leave them presents next to their shoes which were left under the Christmas tree.
The 6th of January is “the children’s day.”
